GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech redshirt sophomore B.C. LaPrade has been named ACC Wrestler of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
This is the New Kent, Va., native's second conference honor in his career after being named Wrestler of the Week last year as a redshirt freshman.
LaPrade posted three wins in leading the No. 13 Hokies to the team title at last weekend's Virginia Duals, including a win over sixth-ranked Larry Early of Old Dominion and a first-period pin of Virginia's Jake Keatiing.
LaPrade trailed Early 2-1 in the semifinals of the Virginia Duals before picking up a takedown and two near fall in the waning the seconds of the first period to go ahead 5-2. LaPrade added another takedown in the third period to seal an 8-4 victory.
He followed up by pinning the Cavaliers' Keating 43 seconds into their final bout to help secure the team championship for Virginia Tech. The pin was the first of LaPrade's career. Earlier in the Duals, he scored a 6-0 decision over Chattanooga's Ryan Resnick while racking up two takedowns and 3:37 of riding time.
LaPrade was only taken down twice in three matches at the Duals. LaPrade improved to 11-4 overall and 6-1 in duals following last weekend's action. He also entered FloWrestling's 157-pound rankings this week at No. 16.
