Lewis, Robie headline VaSID Wrestling All-State Team

FERRUM, Va. – Redshirt freshman Mekhi Lewis headlines the 2019 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Wrestling All-State Team. Lewis earned both Wrestler of the Year and Rookie of the Year honors. Tech head coach Tony Robie was named VaSID Coach of the Year.

Lewis won the 165-pound title at the NCAA Championships last month and was named the NCAA Tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler. This year's ACC champion, Lewis finished with a 28-2 record and a 5-0 mark in ACC duals. In his NCAA title match, Lewis beat two-time defending national champion Vincenzo Joseph of Penn State.

Robie led Virginia Tech to an 11th place finish at the NCAA Tournament and a second-place finish at the ACC Tournament. He helped guide Lewis to the national championship, the first in program history. Robie also led the Hokies to the 2019 Virginia Duals title back in January where they defeated Chattanooga, Old Dominion and Virginia.  Joining Lewis on the All-State first team were Virginia Tech teammates Mitch Moore (141), David McFadden (174) and Zack Zavatsky (184).

Ryan Blees (149), Tom Sleigh (197) and Billy Miller (285) were tabbed to the second team.
