GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech redshirt junior Korbin Myers has been named ACC Wrestler of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Myers is the third Hokie to be named ACC Wrestler of Week this season, joining Mekhi Lewis and B.C. LaPrade.
The now 12th-ranked Myers won both of his matches over the weekend, including an upset over second-ranked Micky Phillippi of Pitt, in a 2-0 week for the Hokies.
In his match against Phillippi, Myers led 3-2 late in the third period. Phillippi accumulated riding time of over a minute, which would have deadlocked the score 3-3 at the end of regulation. But in the final seconds, Myers scored two points on a reversal that extended his lead to 5-2. That made the riding point moot, as Myers' late moved sealed the 5-3 upset decision.
Myers then went on to defeat Lehigh's Brandon Paetzell with a workmanlike 4-1 decision on Sunday. Myers, a native of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, wasn't taken down once in 14 minutes of mat time.
The Hokies return to action on Friday when they take on Duke at 7 p.m. in Durham.
