Tech approaching some milestones
- Tech opens the 26th season of women's soccer at the school approaching some noteworthy milestones as a program.
- First, Sunday's game against No. 22 Georgetown will mark the 500th match in school history.
- Second, Tech enters 2018 with an all-time mark of 247-210-41, just three wins shy of 250.
- Third, all-time at Thompson Field, the Hokies hold a 93-41-18 mark, just seven wins shy of 100.

Tech in season and home openers
- Overall, the Hokies are 16-7-2 in season openers, but have won nine straight and are a perfect 7-0 under head coach Chugger Adair.
- In home openers, Tech has won 11 in a row, again a perfect 7-0 under Adair, and is unbeaten in 17 straight matches (14-0-3) dating back to 2000. Overall, the team has posted a 20-2-3 mark in home openers, losing just the 1993 and 2000 home openers.
- The Hokies are unbeaten at 6-0-2 when their season opener coincides with their home opener.
- Under Adair, Tech has outscored its opponents 22-2 in season openers over the past seven seasons and holds a 28-3 edge in home openers over the same span.

Adair facing his alma mater, also approaching milestone win
- This will be the second straight season Tech head women's soccer coach Chugger Adair will face his alma mater, the University of San Diego. The Hokies won last year 1-0 in double overtime.
- Adair is a San Diego native who graduated from USD in 1993.
- When he played for the Toreros, Adair was a two-year captain, an All-American, and helped lead USD to the NCAA Finals in 1992. He scored 27 goals and had 23 assists in his three years at USD.
- He earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from USD in 1993 and his MBA from USD in 1996. He served as an assistant for the USD's men's soccer team from 1998-2000.
- Adair enters the weekend just five wins shy of 100 in his coaching career. All of them have come as an ACC coach, as he would be just the 10th women's soccer head coach to reach the mark in the ACC.

No start earlier than 2018
- In their prior 25 seasons, the Hokies have never opened a campaign earlier than Friday's Aug. 17 start. Tech has only once opened the year on this date, which was back in 2012, when the team hosted UNC Wilmington in that year's season opener. The Hokies won the game 1-0, as Shannon Mayrose headed home the game winner off a cross from Morgan Conklin in the 102nd minute of action.
