Hokies defeat Liberty, 86-70, in exhibition game

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech men's basketball team defeated Liberty, 86-70, in exhibition action Sunday afternoon. The game, to benefit hurricane relief efforts, was played at the Vines Center on the Liberty campus.
 
The Flames took a 37-36 lead into the intermission, but Tech opened the second half strong and outscored Liberty, 50-33, in the second half.
 
Five Hokies finished the game in double figures, led by senior point guard Justin Robinson, with 20 points and nine assists in just under 28 minutes of action. Freshman Isaiah Wilkins scored 16 points and senior Ahmed Hill scored 15 points. Redshirt junior Kerry Blackshear Jr., and sophomore Nickeil Alexander-Walker added 10 points each.
 
Blackshear and senior Ty Outlaw led the Hokies with seven rebounds each, as Tech outrebounded the Flames, 39-18. Tech shot 57.1 percent from the field for the game, including 63 percent in the second half. Tech made 10-of-19 from behind the 3-point arc, for 52.6 percent.
 
The Hokies open the 2018-19 regular season on Friday night, as they play host to Gardner-Webb. The game will tip-off at 7 p.m. in the Carilion Clinic Court at Cassell Coliseum.
