Adair notches career win No. 100 in Tech victory at Miami

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Virginia Tech women's soccer team got back on track Sunday afternoon as the Hokies dispatched the Miami Hurricanes 2-0 in ACC action at Cobb Stadium and, with it, gave their head coach Chugger Adair career win No. 100.

The Hokies (5-2-3, 1-1-0 ACC) were on the scoreboard early as Allyson Brown tallied the team's fastest goal of the season, scoring in the ninth minute on a tremendous individual effort, beating three Miami defenders before putting the ball in the back of the net.

Tech got an insurance goal from Emily Gray in the 52nd minute as she headed home a cross from Emmalee McCarter to put the visiting team up 2-0.

Miami (3-6-2, 0-2-0 ACC) was limited to just four shots in the contest while Tech goalkeeper Mandy McGlynn needed to make one save in posting her fifth win and fifth shutout of the year.

FROM COACH ADAIR
about the game: "I'm extremely proud and pleased with the effort the team put in from start to finish. Their focus from the opening whistle was strong and getting the early goal by Allyson Brown was huge for us. We played well from the start and asserted ourselves in the game and really set the tone. Moving into the second half, a great goal from two of our freshman, Emily Gray and Emmalee McCarter combining, and that really deflated the other team and lifted our team. This sets us up moving forward which is huge. We did a wonderful job following the game plan and executing it. Very proud of the group and that's what I am focused on today – getting the three points which is tough to get on the road in the ACC."

about the milestone win:  "But along the way, the (100th) win is a testament to the buy-in from the players and the staff, both current and past, as well as the group buying in to the system, supporting, believing and trusting the process of what we are trying to do here at Virginia Tech. I'd like to thank all the staff, players and the administration over the years for all that they have done and do to support this program. But now I'm looking forward to hosting Virginia on Thursday night in the next rivalry battle back at home in Blacksburg."
