Tech to play Radford in exhibition

Opens in a new window Quick Facts

BLACKSBURG – On Carilion Clinic Court at Cassell Coliseum for the first time this season, Virginia Tech's volleyball team will be in action, taking on Radford in an exhibition on Thursday at 6 p.m. ET.

The match will be free for the public to watch, but no live stats or stream will be available. Parking will be accessible next to Cassell Coliseum, but not before 5 p.m. with move-in day taking place.

Fans should enter from Southgate Drive and stay away from Washington Street due to traffic. A campus map can be viewed by clicking here.

Tech is entering its second year with Jill Wilson at the helm and returns 10 letterwinners. Six newcomers will don the maroon and orange for the first time tomorrow, including Talyn Jackson, Sarah Jane Lynch, Angel Robinson, Jennifer Williams, Tessa Wyner and Peyton Yelich.

Of the Hokies' 10 letterwinners, four are starters in setter Rhegan Mitchell, outside hitters Kaity Smith and Ester Talamazzi and right-side hitter Jaila Tolbert, as well as libero Carol Raffety.

Tolbert and Smith earned ACC honors last fall, with Tolbert being named second-team all-conference and Smith to the all-freshman team. The pair combined for 627 kills last season, making up for 44 percent of Tech's total kills.

The all-time series between the Hokies and Highlanders started in 1978 and Tech leads 28-7. Radford won the last contest between the two schools on Sept. 15 in Blacksburg, 3-0. The exhibition will not impact the all-time series.

The regular season will begin for the Hokies on Aug. 24, when they head down to Charlotte and compete in a four-team tournament on the 49ers' campus.
