Tech alums off to strong starts in NFL training camps

Virginia Tech alums put on some impressive performances in the opening week of training camps across the National Football League.

Eleven-year NFL veteran Duane Brown and the Seahawks made headlines over the weekend when the Richmond native signed a three-year contract extension. In addition to the current year that was remaining on the deal that Seattle inherited when they acquired Brown from Houston last season, his current agreement amounts to a four-year deal that could potentially be worth up to $46.25 million.

Tech's trio of rookies in Redskins camp actually have a pair of Hokies keeping close eyes on them at training camp in Richmond. While Torrian Gray serves as Washington's secondary coach, Tech alum Kyshoen Jarrett, is getting his feet wet in the coaching ranks with the Redskins, as well. On Tuesday, head coach Jay Gruden said the former Redskins draftee had the potential to be "an unbelievable football coach." On Wednesday, the Redskins added another Tech alum to their roster, signing free agent LB Dadi Nicolas.

Here's more on how Tim Settle, Greg Stroman and Adonis Alexander are pushing one another.

Former Hokie DeAngello Hall also had some big news from Washington's training camp

After spending the 2017 season on injured reserve for the Dolphins, WR Isaiah Ford has been one of the early offensive standouts at Dolphins' camp, getting rave reviews from the coaching staff and the media. Here's what Ford was saying after putting the pads back on after 18 months.

If you think it's tough to keep up with all the on-field exploits of the Edmunds brothers, join the club! Head coach Sean McDermott and defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier had nothing but love for Trey Edmunds this week as the entire family graced the front page of BuffaloBills.com. Meanwhile, Terrell Edmunds registered a training camp interception for the Steelers, while eldest brother, Trey, continued to make impressive catches out of the backfield for the Saints. Here's a look …

And don't forget that "other" Hokies football family, the Fuller brothers. Kyle (Bears) and Kendall (Chiefs) have both been making plays at their respective camps. Here's a look at Kendall reppin' The #LPD at Kansas City's camp at Missouri Western in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Perhaps the biggest "news" of the week from Cleveland's camp was the emergence of "The Shark," an air-conditioning RV that serves as the clubhouse for Tyrod Taylor and the rest of the Browns quarterbacks. Not only is The Shark off-limits to other teammates, Taylor confirmed that HBO's Hard Knocks won't be granted access either, only building more curiosity about what transpires behind the RV's closed doors!
