NEW ORLEANS – The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association honored Virginia Tech's track and field program Thursday afternoon as announced by the organization, as well as 20 Hokies earning All-Academic Team honors, which led the ACC.
Vincent Ciattei, Daniel Jaskowak, Jack Joyce, Torben Laidig, Bashir Mosavel-Lo, Mackenzie Muldoon, Thierry Siewe Yanga and Diego Zarate represented the Hokies on the men's side, helping them a earn a cumulative GPA of 3.20.
Stefanie Aeschlimann, Laurie Barton, Rachel Baxter, Courtney Blanden, Sarah Edwards, Sara Freix, Lisa Gunnarsson, Lindsay Herra, Katie Kennedy, Shannon Quinn, Kayla Richardson and Emma Thor represented the Hokies on the women's side, helping them a earn a cumulative GPA of 3.29.
To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards.
For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.
For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships, including preliminary rounds.
Outgoing seniors Ciattei and Laidig headline Tech's All-Academic recipients. Both earned Google Cloud Academic All-America this past year, the first Hokies to do so since 2014. Ciattei and Laidig also earned ACC track & field Scholar-Athlete of the Year, indoor and Outdoor respectively. Both had great showings at the NCAA Outdoor Championships with Ciattei earning silver in the mile and Laidig taking home bronze in the pole vault.
