BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women's golf team will face an ambitious and challenging schedule in its fourth season of competition. With eight new events on top-level courses with elite fields, the 2018-19 schedule features nine regular season tournaments, plus the ACC Championship.
"For our fourth year of competition, we have the most challenging schedule to date," head coach Carol Robertson said. "I am excited the inaugural class has the opportunity to tee it up every event against top teams at a top venue. The growth in the past three seasons is something in which we are all proud, but it was achieved through dedication, persistence and belief in a solid foundation. This is the final year for the inaugural team and I am proud this schedule is what will see them through to their graduation."
The 2017-18 edition of the Hokies earned the program's first-ever NCAA regional bid in just their third season of competition. Tech, the 14th seed, finished 10th at the NCAA Austin Regional in Austin, Texas. Last season also saw rising senior Elizabeth Bose win the first-ever individual tournament title in the program's brief history.
For the second consecutive season, the Hokies open at the Minnesota Invitational. The tournament will be played at the Preswick Golf Club in Woodbury, Minnesota, hosted by the University of Minnesota Sept. 10-11. Tech finished seventh last season and Bose tied for fourth individually.
Next up for Tech is the Golfweek Challenge at the Red Sky Golf Club in Vail, Colorado Sept. 24-26. That is followed with another new destination for the Hokies, as they will play in the Illinois Invite at Medinah Oct. 8-9. The tournament, hosted by Illinois, will be played on Course #2 at the prestigious Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Illinois.
The fall will conclude with a pair of events on elite courses. Tech will compete in the Magnolia Invitational Oct. 14-16 at the Jerry Pate-designed Old Waverly Golf Course in West Point, Mississippi, hosted by Mississippi State. Old Waverly will host the 2019 US Women's Amateur, as well. The Hokies will end the fall portion of the schedule at Louisville's Fall Intercollegiate Oct. 26-28. The tournament, hosted by Louisville, will be played at the Atlanta Athletic Club.
The spring slate begins on Feb. 10-12, as Tech will play in the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, hosted by Purdue. The three-day event will be played on the River Course of the Rio Mar Country Club.
Over spring break, Tech will travel to the Dominican Republic to play in the Tar Heel Classic. The tournament, hosted by North Carolina, will be played at Pete Dye-designed Teeth of the Dog Golf Course in La Romana, Dominican Republic.
Back stateside, the Hokies will play in the Bryan National Intercollegiate March 29-31. The tournament will be played at the Bryan National Champion's Course in Brown's Summit, North Carolina. Tech will complete the regular season at the Clemson Invitational April 7-9. The three-day tournament will be played at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Reserve at Lake Keowee in Lake Keowee, South Carolina.
The Hokies will be looking for continued growth at the ACC women's Golf Championship. This year's event will return to the prestigious Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina. Tech finished 12th its first season and improved to 11th place in each of the last two seasons.
Tech will look to earn its second consecutive NCAA bid this spring. This year's regional sites are hosted by Auburn, Michigan State, Oklahoma and Washington. The NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship will be played at The Blessings Golf Course in Fayetteville, Arkansas May 17-22.
Tech returns a veteran line-up from the team that competed in the NCAA Austin Regional. The Hokies add freshmen Keera Foocharoen of Bangkok, Thailand and Nora Wrenger from Munich, Germany to this season's roster.
