Bajnok, Harrison post top-five finishes on Saturday

USATF Outdoor Championships Results

Rising junior Eszter Bajnok took second place in the triple jump at the Hungary National Meet and alum Queen Harrison placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles at the USATF Outdoor Championships on Saturday, representing Virginia Tech track and field.

Bajnok launched for a mark of 13.42 meters (44 feet, 0.5 inches), which broke the national U23 record.

Harrison first qualified for the finals after clocking a time of 12.79 seconds in the 100 hurdles at 3:20 p.m. ET, placing second in her heat in Des Moines, Iowa. Then the 2010 Bowerman award winner crossed the finish line in 12.76 two hours later on national television (NBC) to place fourth in the finals.

Deakin Volz competed in the pole vault and did not clear the first bar of 5.45 meters (17 feet, 10.5 inches) on three attempts in Des Moines at Drake Stadium. He wraps up his junior year with earning first-team All-America twice and first-team All-ACC twice as well.

The final day of the USATF Outdoor Championships starts with the women's heptathlon at 12:30 p.m. Tech alums Hanna Green and Drew Piazza will compete in the 800-meter run finals, while Thomas Curtin will go at it in the 5,000 meters at 5:30 p.m. on NBC.
