OTAs ramp up this week across National Football League

Join The Drive for 25! 2018 Season Ticktes

There are currently 23 Virginia Tech alums on NFL rosters. Several clubs began OTAs (Organized Team Activities) on Monday with the bulk of teams starting on-field workouts Tuesday, May 22. During this phase of NFL off-season programs, teams may conduct on-field workouts, but no live contact or team offense vs. team defense drills are permitted.

One of the most highly-anticipated set of OTAs this season will take place in Berea, Ohio where QB Tyrod Taylor will get his first opportunity to formally work with his receivers and other offensive players with coaches present. Of course, many of the cameras in Cleveland will have their lenses focused on the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, QB Baker Mayfield. That scrutiny will only continue during training camp as the Browns have been selected to appear on HBO's "Hard Knocks."

Here are some other nuggets and notes about Tech players in NFL, as well as a few other tidbits . . .

· Tremaine Edmunds (Buffalo) was the top overall Tech player selected with the 16th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Based on various published reports, his four-year rookie deal with worth approximately $12.7 million with an average salary of $3.2 million. The Bills will have an option for a fifth year in 2022. Bucky Brooks of NFL.com thinks that Edmunds has a shot to make the 2018 NFL All-Rookie Team.

· Chris Vannini of The Athletic recently took a look at how different FBS programs used the 10th assistant coaching position. The story features a good look at Adam Lechtenberg, who has filled that role at Tech.

· Terrell Edmunds (Pittsburgh) is the only member of Tech's five-man draft class who remains unsigned. ICYMI, take a listen to what Steelers defensive coordinator Keith Butler was saying about Edmunds after rookie mini-camp.

· It didn't take long for LB Dadi Nicolas to get scooped up on the free agent marked. He inked with Seattle last week where he'll wear No. 58 and join a Seattle defense that includes Pro Bowl S Kam Chancellor.

· Way too early Top 25 polls – Athlon Sports was the latest entity to roll out a "way-too-early" Top 25 for the 2018 season. The Hokies come in at No. 16 in this post-spring ranking.
