TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Virginia Tech women's team fell to No. 18 Florida State 7-0 on Friday afternoon at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center in Tallahassee, Florida.
Tech (12-8, 3-8 ACC) fell behind after the doubles point with the Seminoles (16-7, 7-5 ACC) winning matches on courts one and three. The Hokies were knotted on court two at 5 with Natalie Novotna and Nina Sorkin paired up against Andrea Garcia and Julia Mikulski, but the contest went unfinished once the point was decided.
The Seminoles secured the team win with straight set victories on courts three, five and one and pushed their lead to 5-0, winning the match at five in the same manner.
Tech battled on courts two and six with Caroline Daxhelet and Katherine Butler splitting sets. On court six, Butler came back against Garcia after giving up the first set 6-4 to win the second 6-2. In the super tiebreak, the FSU player held on for the win 10-6.
Court two was a close one as Daxhelet squared off against FSU's 97th-ranked Petra Hule. The two split sets, going into tiebreaks in both. Daxhelet fell in the first 7-6(3), but came back to win the second by the same margin. In the super tiebreak, Hule closed it out for the win 10-6.
Virginia Tech will remain on the road to face No. 16 Miami on Sunday, April 15 at 11 a.m.
