GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech senior wide receiver Cam Phillips, redshirt senior guard Wyatt Teller and junior linebacker Tremaine Edmunds have been named to the All-ACC Preseason Football Team, the conference office announced Wednesday.
The team was selected by a vote of 167 media members who were credentialed for last week’s ACC Football Kickoff in Charlotte.
The Hokies tied with Florida State, the preseason favorite to win the ACC, and NC State for the third-most selections on the preseason team. Miami placed four players on the squad, while Clemson had five honorees.
After playing alongside Bucky Hodges and Isaiah Ford the last three seasons, Phillips looks to step into the spotlight as the veteran pass catcher in the receiving corps. As a junior, he finished second on the team with 76 receptions and 983 receiving yards, single-season totals that rank second and third, respectively, in Tech history. He was named the MVP of the Belk Bowl where posted a career-high 115 receiving yards on six catches.
Teller was a 2016 All-ACC honorable mention pick by both ACSMA and the league’s coaches. Pro Football Focus also named Teller to their all-conference team and ranked him as the seventh-best guard in the nation at the end of season. The Bealeton, Virginia native played in all 14 games and registered 12 starts as a redshirt junior.
A consensus second-team All-ACC selection as a sophomore, Edmunds ranked second on the team with 106 total tackles last season and tied for the team lead with 18.5 tackles for loss. His TFL total tied for the most by a Tech player since Cols Colas collected 19.0 tackles for loss in 2002.
The Hokies were picked to finish second in the Coastal Division in the ACC preseason poll that was released on Monday.
