Hokie ClubBLACKSBURG – The Hokies return to the field Tuesday evening for their seventh practice of the spring. Head coach Justin Fuente and his staff began situational work with the squad Saturday.

While the Hokies are losing two NFL-bound receiving targets in Isaiah Ford and Bucky Hodges, senior Cam Phillips returns to lead Tech’s receiving corps. Norm Wood of The Daily Press posted a good read on Phillips’ taking an increased leadership role for the Hokies.

Tyrod Taylor is back at work, too
Monday marks the opening day of the Buffalo Bills’ off-season program. Quarterback Tyrod Taylor joined his teammates, as they begin work under first-year head coach Sean McDermott.
Here’s what Taylor told Clint Brooks of USA Today.com last month in an anticipating of beginning work under McDermott and his staff.
“Very detailed, very serious in his approach.” Taylor said of McDermott. “Just being around him, not knowing much about him, asking some guys that have played for him in the past couple of years about him – all good things. And just being around him, and like I said, seeing him day-to-day while I’m over here working out, rehabbing, just casual conversation. Definitely think that he has the right message for the team, and I’m excited to play for him, and the rest of the guys will be when they meet him.”

Another good read on Joey Slye’s battle to kick cancer
Senior kicker Joey Slye is helping The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society with its annual big fundraising event. He continues his push to raise money through his social media channels, with help from both Union Bank & Trust and the Virginia Tech Athletics Department. He also received permission to put on an event at Tech’s Indoor Practice Facility on April 23, the Sunday after the spring game.
For small fees, those who attend can participate in games such bubble ball soccer and cornhole. There also will be a silent auction for certain items/memorabilia. Those who wish to contribute online can do so by clicking here.
Chase Parker recently connected with Joey to learn more about his relationship with his late brother, A.J., and how he’s striving to keep his memory alive.
