Four H2Okies advance to finals after morning session of day two at ACC Championships

ATLANTA - Four H2Okies will represent the Virginia Tech swimming and diving team in the finals of day two at the ACC Swimming and Diving Championships.

Senior Jessica Hespeler is seeded third in the 500 free while freshman Reka Gyorgy and senior Fiona Donnelly are seeded fourth and sixth, respectively, in the A finals of the 200 IM. Fans can watch tonight’s finals on WatchESPN via the ACC Digital Network from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Hespeler broke the school record in the 500 free with a time of 4:39.44, breaking the previous mark of 4:40.03 set by Erika Hanjal in 2010. Hespeler’s time was the fastest in her heat and the third-fastest overall in the prelims.

Donnelly swam a 1:58.16, a season-best, that put her in the A finals of the 200 IM with the sixth fastest time. Gyorgy broke her own program record in the event in the very next heat with a time of 1:57.85, the fourth fastest time overall.

Reaching tonight’s C final in the women’s 500 free is freshman Jenna Beattie who swam a personal best time of 4:50.24 to finish 18th overall in the prelims.
