Tech set to host the annual H2Okie Fall Invitational

BLACKSBURG – 10 swimming and diving programs will converge on the Christiansburg Aquatic Center this weekend for the Virginia Tech swimming and diving program’s annual H2Okie Fall Invitational.

The three-day event will kick off on Thursday, Nov. 17 and will conclude on Saturday, Nov. 19. Prelims will start at 10 a.m. and the finals are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. for all three days. The H2Okie men (6-0, 3-0 ACC) are currently ranked No. 12 in the latest CSCAA Coaches Poll while the H2Okie women (4-2, 1-2 ACC) are slotted at No. 25. Last time out, the women knocked off Pitt in convincing fashion with a 231.5-121.5 victory. The men remained undefeated with wins over the Panthers and Notre Dame.

TRIO LEADS THE WOMEN’S SIDE

  • Junior Klaudia Nazieblo, senior Jessica Hespeler and sophomore Ashlynn Peters have been standout performers heading into the H2Okies final competition of 2016.
  • Hespeler has three times slotted in the top 20 in the country in multiple freestyle events including the fifth-fastest time of 16:42.66 in the mile.
  • Nazieblo has been cleaning up in the IMs where, in the 100 IM, she holds the eighth-fastest time in the nation with a personal-best 57.04.
  • Peters has taken first in the three meter in all three meets for the H2Okies this season, posting a top time of 315.45 against Penn State.

IAN HO STANDS OUT

  • Sophomore Ian Ho’s first place time of 19.99 in the 50 free last week against Notre Dame and Pitt was not only a personal best but also the 18th-fastest time in the country this season.
  • Also last week, Ho helped lift the H2Okies 200 medley relay team to a first place finish by swimming a 19:48 in the final leg to give the unit a time of 1:28.65.

PROMO SCHEDULE

  • Thursday: free koozies for the first 100 fans in attendance
  • Friday: free donuts for the first 100 fans
  • Saturday: Pack the CAC, accepting 100% juice boxes and mac and cheese cups benefitting Micah’s backpack
