Tech women's golf program to host inaugural fundraising tournament

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech women’s golf team invites Tech fans, alums and friends to sign up for the inaugural HokieBirdie Golf Classic to be held Sept. 21 at the Pete Dye River Course.

The tournament – sponsored by National Bank – is a captain’s choice format and starts at 10 a.m. The cost is $150 per person, or $600 per team. The entry fee includes a breakfast buffet, participant gifts, a beverage cart, a post-play meal by Bull and Bones and many other prizes. All proceeds from the tournament go directly to the women’s golf program.

Several $1,500 sponsorship opportunities are available. Also, sponsorships for individual holes are available for $100.

In May of last year, the Tech athletics department added women’s golf as the 22nd varsity sport at Tech, with the program beginning play in the fall of 2015. Last July, Carol Robertson was hired as the first head coach, and she signed her first recruiting class – Amanda Hollandsworth of Floyd, Virginia, and Allison Woodward of Unicoi, Tennessee – last November. Those two will take redshirt years this fall before competing in 2015.
