BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech women's tennis team will play the final road match of the year Wednesday at 1 p.m. when the Hokies face No. 60 Marshall. The match will be played at Cabell Midland High School in Huntington, W.Va.
Tech (14-9), ranked No. 51 nationally in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll, is led by freshman Yasmin Hamza (Cairo, Egypt), ranked No. 120 nationally, with a 15-7 dual match record. Inga Beermann (Jr., Bad Salzuflen, Germany) has posted 20 overall singles victories this season while facing some of the nation's best at the top of the Tech lineup. Holly Johnson (Fr., Tallahassee, Fla.) and Jessica Long (Sr., Elizabethtown, Pa.) have posted 23 and 20 singles wins respectively.
The Hokies will close out the regular season this weekend hosting No. 7 Duke (Sat., noon) and No. 15 North Carolina (Sun., 10 a.m.). The first 50 fans to Saturday's Duke match will receive a free VT hat and the first 100 fans to Sunday's UNC contest will receive a free VT Tennis mini-ball. Prior to Sunday's match, seniors Bethan James, Jessica Long and J.J. Larson will be honored.
