Hokie ClubCHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Luka Somen captured the championship of the A1 singles Sunday at the Steve Baras Collegiate Fall Classic held at the Champions Club. The freshmen won three of his four matches in three sets.
Somen (Fr., Karlovac, Crotia) defeated Andrey Bubnov (UNC Greensboro), 6-2, 4-6, 6-1, in Sunday's final.
Zach Pine (Fr., Vienna, Va.) took the B1 consolation bracket defeating Fernando Armendaris (Mercer), 6-4, 6-3.
In doubles action, Pine/Eduardo Pinto lost A2 Doubles against Amaral/Lima (Belmont), 8-5.

ATHENS, Ga. - Virginia Tech was eliminated Sunday from further play at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships. The event was being played at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the University of Georgia campus.
Sebastien Jacques (So., Magog, Quebec, Canada)/Yoann Re (Jr., Verdun, Quebec, Canada) lost their Division I doubles quarterfinal match, 8-5, to Dimitrov/Michel (Duke). Elsewhere, Brandon Corace (Sr., Naples, Fla.) and Re were eliminated from the Division I consolation bracket as was Preston Lemon (Sr., Roanoke, Va.) from the Division II consolation draw.
