Tech defeats Boston College, 7-0

WEYMOUTH, Mass. - The Virginia Tech women's tennis team picked up a 7-0 decision Friday afternoon over the Boston College Eagles in a match played at the Weymouth Club. Boston College, ranked No. 69 nationally, falls to 9-6 overall and 1-5 in the ACC, while the Hokies, ranked No. 50 nationally, improved to 13-7, 1-5.

Tech swept the doubles competition for the first point then captured all six singles matches for the victory.

In singles, Inga Beermann (Jr., Bad Salzflen, Germany) won her No. 1 match, 7-6 (2), 7-5, against Lana Krasnopolsky and Yasmin Hamza(Fr., Cairo, Egypt) picked up a 5-0, ret. victory over Lauren Cash at No. 2 when Cash became ill.. Elsewhere, Jessica Long (Sr., Elizabethtown, Pa.) was victorious 6-2, 6-2, in her No. 3 match versus Katharine Attwell, J.J. Larson (Sr., Orchard Park, N.Y.) won 7-5, 6-3, at No. 4 versus Alina Sullivan,Jessica Brouwer (Jr., Maarssen, Netherlands) won her No. 5 match against Sarah Svoboda, 6-0, 7-5, andHolly Johnson (Fr. Tallahassee, Fla.) took the No. 6 contest, 6-4, 6-2, over Alison Wagner.

The match opened with the Hokies taking the doubles competition. Tech's Brower/Larson won 8-3 at No. 1 against Atwell/Sullivan, Hamza/Long picked up a 8-6 win at No. 2 versus Dasha Cherkasov/KIrasnopolsky and Beermann/Johnson won the No. 3 match, 8-2, over Jacqueline Mabatah/Svoboda.

Tech will play at Maryland on Sunday at 10 a.m.
