Zach Mackey

Director of Broadcasting, Men's Basketball Play-By-Play

Zach Mackey is currently the Director of Broadcasting at Virginia Tech after serving the past three years as the voice of Montana State University football and basketball. His responsibilities include football pre-game, post-game, and sideline reporting, basketball play-by-play, as well as hosting the football and basketball coaches shows. Zach also hosts a podcast.

In addition to his radio play-by-play duties for Montana State football and basketball, Zach also excelled in a wide array of roles for the Bobcats. He called Montana State volleyball matches on ESPN+, hosted Bobcat Insider chronicling MSU Athletics, and increased Bobcat Athletics’ presence on social media. After a 2021-2022 season that included calling an FCS National Championship game and an NCAA Tournament game, Zach was honored as the 2021 Montana Sportscaster of the Year from the National Sports Media Association.

Zach has been the play-by-play radio voice of the University of Iowa baseball team since 2015. A 2018 graduate of the University of Iowa, Zach also helped with football pre and post-game coverage while contributing to men’s and women’s basketball broadcasts throughout his college years. He also has called a variety of sports for the Big Ten Network, and earned the Bob Sheppard High School P.A. Announcer of the Year Award and the runner-up for the Bob Costas High School Play-by-Play Broadcaster of the Year Award in 2013 in his hometown of Geneseo, Illinois.
