Prior to Virginia Tech:  Shepard arrived in Blacksburg following two seasons at Youngstown State as the special teams coordinator and defensive ends coach (2023-25) where he coached the 2024 FCS Punter of the Year in Brendon Kilpatrick.

Shepard spent two seasons coaching special teams and tight ends at Indiana State (2022-23) following four years at Western Illinois (2018-21), serving as special teams coordinator, while coaching running backs and tight ends and holding the role of assistant head coach in his time there.

In 2017, he assisted with quarterbacks and special teams at Wyoming where he helped develop quarterback Josh Allen, the seventh overall selection in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Shepard began his coaching career at Robert Morris, coaching tight ends from 2010-12 and was the wide receivers and pass game coordinator until 2016.

Education:  Miami (Ohio), 2019 (B.S. in History, minor in Coaching); Robert Morris, 2011 (M.S. in Informational Systems and Communication)

Personal:  A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Shepard was a three-year letterwinner as a tight end at Miami (Ohio). He and his wife, Amy, have a daughter named Peyton.
