Natalie Wimmer

Assistant Athletic Director, Student-Athlete Development

Responsibilities: As assistant athletic director for student-athlete development, Wimmer oversees the personal development programming for all Hokie student-athletes. This includes the planning and implementation of THRIVE mental health programs (in conjunction with CAMP), sexual misconduct and relationship violence prevention education, and “Personal Branding and Job Success” workshops covering a variety of “life skills” topics. In addition, Wimmer serves as the faculty advisor for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, responsible for planning various events including “Welcome Home” for freshmen student-athletes, Hokies for Hokies tailgates, and the end of the year “Gobblers” awards show. She also oversees the nomination of student-athletes for conference and national awards. Wimmer also assists in managing the student-athlete development budget and supports other members of the student-athlete development staff in planning numerous events including the Athletic Director’s Honors Celebration and Career Jumpstart.

Joined VT Athletics Staff: 2014 

At Virginia Tech: Wimmer began her career at Tech as the coordinator for student-athlete development. In that role, she coordinated programming to enhance student-athletes’ personal development, career awareness and a commitment to community service, while meeting the university motto of Ut Prosim (that I may serve). She also served as co-advisor for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and assisted in planning the All-Sports Banquet, Athletics Director’s Honors Breakfast, Reading Day luncheons and New Student-Athlete Orientation. She was named Director of Student-Athlete Development in January of 2016, Senior Director in August of 2017, and Assistant Athletic Director in August of 2021.

Prior to Virginia Tech: Before being hired as coordinator of student-athlete development, Wimmer served as an intern in the office, formerly known as the Office of Student Life, from September of 2013 to May of 2014. She also held internships with Coastal Plain League Baseball Teams in Hampton, Virginia, and Morehead City, North Carolina during the summers from 2012 to 2014. While at Virginia Tech, she was involved in the Sports Business Club and on an executive committee for Relay For Life 2014.

Personal: Wimmer grew up in Hampton, Virginia, and attended Kecoughtan High School. She currently lives in Blacksburg, Virginia with her husband, Ben and their son, Baker.
