Responsibilities: In his role, Matt works closely with the Associate AD for Major Gifts to design and implement donor-centric strategies in support of Athletics and university priorities. While focusing on building relationships with donors in Northern Virginia and Maryland, he is also responsible for cultivating and soliciting philanthropic gifts throughout all of Hokie Nation. He is the fundraising liaison for the women’s soccer, women’s basketball and the men’s golf programs.
Joined VT Athletics Staff: 2021. Matt is entering his 7th year at Virginia Tech and his 4th in the Hokie Club.
Prior to Virginia Tech: Before being promoted to his current role, Matt was a named a leadership gift officer in the College of Engineering in 2020. While in COE, Matt assisted senior leadership in the planning and strategic implementation of Gravyty software that allowed the LGO team to reach more donors virtually during the pandemic. In 2018, Camire transitioned to higher education as a Central Leadership Gift officer at Virginia Tech. He started his fundraising journey with Special Olympics Virginia. There, he was responsible for all of the fundraising initiatives southwest and piedmont Virginia. He is currently still very involved with Special Olympics on a volunteer basis.
Education: Camire received his undergraduate degree in Sports Management from Liberty University in 2010. He was a walk-on member of the football team and earned a full scholarship and started every game at center his senior year. He completed his Masters in Sports Administration in 2012.
Personal: A native of Midlothian, VA, Matt currently resides in Christiansburg with his wife Caitlin and two sons, Cooper and Caden.
