Krantz began her dancing career at the age of five at the Patrick County Dancing Arts Center in Stuart, Virginia. She started her teaching career at 15, assisting with students in Patrick County. During this time, Kelly had the opportunity to perform for the Virginia Legislature and was part of the PCDAC travel competition team, competing nationwide.
Krantz graduated from Radford University with a Bachelor of Science degree in dance. While at Radford, she participated in numerous productions as part of her curriculum and was selected for various special performances sponsored by the University. She has also served as a guest teacher at Radford University, instructing tap within the dance department.
During her junior year at Radford, Krantz opened the Carroll County Dance Center in Hillsville, Virginia. She has seen great success over the last 28 years, educating local youth in the art of dance. Based on her education, experience, and research she has designed her own curriculum that accommodates dancers of any level.
For six years, Krantz was a staff member for Dance Troupe, Inc., a national dance competition and convention. With this organization, she traveled the United States judging competitions and teaching seminar classes.
In 2019, Krantz accepted a position with the Carroll County School System as the High School Dance Team Coach, focusing on choreographing routines for technically trained dancers.
Krantz has provided various performance opportunities for her dancers, including events on Carnival Cruise Lines, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, at Universal Studios, the Daytona 500, NASCAR Xfinity Race Series, Pulaski Yankees, Salem Red Sox, The Harlem Globetrotters, and countless others. Her dancers have also achieved the highest honors possible on the National Competition stage.
Dancers who have studied under Krantz’s direction have excelled in professional careers including undergraduate and graduate dance degrees and being part of national performance companies.
During the global pandemic, when many small businesses were forced to shut down, Krantz used creative and intuitive methods to keep her students engaged and learning. Not only did CCDC survive the pandemic, but they also thrived. It was at this time she decided to expand and franchise to her second location in Mount Airy, North Carolina with the Surry County Dance Center.
Through her vision, The KMG Ensemble was born. Her brand currently offers two locations that provide quality dance education to hundreds of young people in Virginia and North Carolina.
Krantz comes from a multigenerational Hokie family and is proud to bring her 30 years of dance education expertise to Virginia Tech. This Is Home!
