Prior to Virginia Tech: A former FCS head coach and coordinator at multiple FBS schools, Conklin spent the 2025 season as a special assistant at Colorado, following two seasons at Arkansas State (2023-34), where he served as special teams coordinator and safeties coach.
Conklin was the head coach at Wofford for five seasons (2018-22), guiding the Terriers to a pair of Southern Conference Championships and two FCS playoff appearances. Conklin also served as defensive coordinator at Pitt (2015-17) and Florida International (2013-14). His career has included stops at Tennessee (2012), the Citadel (2010-11), a first stint at Wofford (2007-09), and South Dakota State (2003-06).

Personal: A native of Gillette, Wyoming, Conklin was a starting linebacker and Academic All-American at Dakota State. Conklin and his wife, Molly, have three children – sons Clark and Davis and daughter Millie.
