Jake Lyman

Assistant Director of Broadcasting, Women's Basketball & Baseball Play-By-Play

Virginia Tech Athletics announced the hiring of Jake Lyman to the role of assistant director of broadcasting for Virginia Tech Sports Network Sept. 17, 2026. Lyman’s duties will include play-by-play broadcasting for the Hokies’ women’s basketball and baseball teams as well as assisting with day-to-day operations of the Virginia Tech Sports Network, hosting digital content, and overseeing podcast efforts.

Lyman, who graduated from Virginia Tech’s sports media and analytics program in 2022, has been the voice of Vanderbilt’s women’s basketball program for the past four seasons as the Commodores have seen a resurgence under Head Coach Shea Ralph. He was on the call in 2024 when Vanderbilt made the NCAA tournament for the first time in a decade and was also a part of the squad in 2026 that finished second in the SEC and reached the Sweet Sixteen.

During his time in Nashville, Lyman called select games in the summer for the Triple-A franchise the Nashville Sounds.

As an undergraduate enrolled in the SMA program, Lyman had the opportunity to call Virginia Tech games for 3304 Sports, and he also hosted the Tech Sideline Podcast. He also covered 10 Hokie baseball games in 2023 while Evan Hughes was called away as the women’s basketball program made their magical run to the Final Four.
