Cameron "CJ" Carter

Director, Student Athlete Career Development

Responsibilities: As Director of Student-Athlete Career Development, Carter oversees the career and professional development programming for all Hokie student-athletes. This includes the planning and implementation of the Career Game Plan: Career 101, Resume Remix, Career Jumpstart, and Beyond VT. In addition, Carter serves as the supervisor for the Hokie L.E.A.D summer internship program. 

Joined VT Athletics Staff: 2024

Prior to Virginia Tech: Before joining the Hokies, Carter served as the Student-Athlete Development Intern for the Iowa State University (ISU) Football Program. He also held two graduate assistantships, in the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences and the Multicultural Student Affairs Office, while at ISU. Prior to his time at ISU, he worked as a Freshman Admissions Counselor at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI). 

Education: University of Northern Iowa, 2021 (B.A. in Family Services with a Distinction in Peer Education); Iowa State University, 2024 (M.Ed. in Student Affairs).

Of Note: Carter was a member of the Men's Track and Field Team at the University of Northern Iowa from 2017-2019. In addition, he served as the Director of Athletic Affairs for the Northern Iowa Student Government.

Personal: A native of Bettendorf, Iowa, Carter currently lives in Christiansburg. Carter's father, Stewart Carter, won a NCAA Division I National Championship at 158lbs for ISU in 1987 and was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2016.
