Coaching Highlights
• Midget joined the Virginia Tech staff in 2026 with more than two decades of coaching experience at the high school, college, and professional levels.
• Midget spent the last two seasons as assistant secondary coach with the Pittsburgh Steelers, mentoring the likes of Pro Bowlers Minkah Fitzpatrick (2024) and Jalen Ramsey (2025).
• Midget helped the Steelers tally 17 interceptions during the 2024 season, tied for third-most in the NFL. The secondary was led by Donte Jackson's five interceptions and four from rookie Beanie Bishop.
• As a defensive analyst at Florida State in 2023, Midget helped the Seminoles achieve an undefeated regular season, ACC Championship, and a berth in the Orange Bowl, mentoring NFL draft picks Renardo Green and Jarrian Jones.
• Prior to the 2023 season, Midget spent three seasons as the Tennessee Titans defensive backs coach (2020-22).
• The Titans ranked third in the NFL in third down defense during the 2022 season with a 34.2 opponent third down percentage.
• The Titans won the AFC South title in 2020 and 2021, securing the AFC’s number one seed in the playoffs in 2021.
• In 2021, under Midget’s direction, safety Kevin Byard was voted to the Pro Bowl and was named a First Team All-Pro.
• The Titans ranked sixth in opponent 3rd down percentage (37.3), fourth in red zone defense and sixth in scoring defense during the 2021 season.
• Cornerback Malcom Butler finished fourth in the NFL with five interceptions during the 2020 season under Midget’s tutelage.
• Midget had a six-year stint with the Houston Texans, serving as the assistant defensive backs coach from 2014-17 and defensive backs coach in 2018 and 2019.
• The Texans won the AFC South four times in his tenure, 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2019.
• During his six seasons in Houston, the Texans ranked second in the NFL in third down defense with a 35.3 opponent third down percentage, fourth in opponent completion percentage (61.5) and fifth in net yards allowed per game (329.9).
• In 2018, cornerback/safety Kareem Jackson became one of the most versatile defensive backs in the NFL under Midget’s supervision. Jackson recorded the best season of his nine-year career, ranking third in the NFL with a single-season career-high 17 passes defended and adding a career-high 87 tackles. He also tallied a sack, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery.
• Safety Justin Reid played in all 16 games in 2018, and became the first rookie to post a stat line of 81 total tackles, three interceptions (including one returned 101 yards for a touchdown), 10 passes defended, two tackles for loss, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and seven special teams tackles since each stat became officially tracked by the NFL.
• In 2016, the Texans had the top-ranked defense in the NFL for the first time in franchise history, yielding an average of only 301.3 total net yards per game.
• Safety Quintin Demps led all NFL safeties in 2016 with a career-high of six interceptions, which also tied for the second-most in a single season in Texans history.
• In 2015, the Texans finished third in the NFL in net yards and net passing yards allowed per game, tied for third in passes defensed, and tied for seventh in points allowed per game. The Texans also allowed the fifth-lowest opponent completion percentage (59.0) in the league.
• In 2014, the Texans secondary was involved in 22 of Houston's 34 takeaways and seven players were credited with either a forced fumble, fumble recovery or interception. The group accounted for nine forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries, 16 interceptions, and three interceptions returned for touchdowns. As a team, the Texans set franchise records with 11 different players recording interceptions, four interception returns for touchdowns, and an NFL-best 483 yards on interception returns.
• Cornerback A.J. Bouye set single-season career highs with 62 total tackles and 16 passes defensed while starting 11 games. Bouye also became the first player in team history with a pick in back-to-back postseason games.
• Midget spent the 2013 season at Penn State as safeties coach, where three players ranked in the top-20 in passes defended in the Big Ten.
• From 2008 to 2012, Midget served in various roles at Georgia State, including defensive backs coach and special teams coordinator, and one season as defensive coordinator (2012).
• Special teams contributed two kickoff returns for touchdowns and a blocked punt. In 2011, the team ranked 23rd nationally in punt return average with 11.1 yards per return. Kicker lain Vance earned third-team all-America recognition.
• Kick returner Albert Wilson led the Colonial Athletic Association with a 25.9 kickoff return average and was selected as CAA Co-Special Teams Player of the Year in 2012.
• Midget was a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Virginia Tech during the 2007 season, running the scout team and breaking down film on opponents, playing a key role in the Hokies’ ACC Championship.
• A Clewiston, Florida native, Midget began his coaching career at Lake Worth High School in Lake Worth Beach, Florida, from 2002-06, serving as assistant head coach and defensive coordinator.
Playing Highlights
• Midget was a four-year letterman (1996-99) and three-year starter at cornerback under head coach Frank Beamer, helping Virginia Tech to the 1999 BCS National Championship game.
• Midget was a first team All-Big East honoree and third team All-American as a senior in 1999, also serving as a team captain for the Hokies.
• He played in 43 games as a Hokie with 19 starts, finishing his career at Virginia Tech with 121 tackles, five interceptions, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and a blocked kick.
• Midget was drafted in the fifth round of the 2000 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons and also spent two seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
• Midget received his bachelor’s degree in sociology from Virginia Tech in 1999.
