Grant Duncan

Senior Associate Athletics Director, Revenue Strategy and External Affairs

Responsibilities: Duncan entered his current role in 2021 as the Associate Athletic Director for Championship Resources Strategy.  In this role, he is responsible for leading Tech's revenue generation efforts providing an oversight of fundraising strategy and ticket sales campaigns. This includes goal setting, driving core strategies, and providing tactical vision for the Hokie's revenue-focused units.

At Virginia Tech: Beginning as a Marketing Assistant in 2011 and working his way to his current role, Duncan has served as the lead marketing contact for many of Tech’s sports programs including women’s basketball, softball, baseball, tennis, swimming and diving, and lacrosse. In 2016, his primary responsibilities shifted, providing leadership for the marketing, fan experience, and in-game entertainment efforts for Virginia Tech’s football program. He also led the department’s advertising campaigns and digital marketing strategy during this time. Most recently in 2020, he was responsible for leading the Hokie Club's annual fundraising efforts, providing direction for strategy with an emphasis on growing membership, donor engagement, and retaining and cultivating current donors.
 
Prior to Virginia Tech: Before returning to Blacksburg, Duncan served as a graduate assistant for athletics marketing at VCU while completing his Master’s degree in Sport Leadership.
 
Of Note: Duncan has been a NACMA member since 2012, and a member of NAADD since 2020. While at Tech, the marketing team has received NACMA Marketing Team of the Year honorable mention honors for academic years 2015-16, 2016-17, and 2019-20. He has also worked on projects that have resulted in a variety of NACMA awards for best Season Ticket Sales Campaign (2021-22, 2019-20, 2018-19, 2015-16), Digital Promotion (2021-22, 2019-20), and Revenue Generating Idea (2021-22). In 2021, through the work of many collaborative projects, the Hokies' entire external operations unit was named Paciolan's Star of the Year. This award is given to the Paciolan client achieving outstanding results in ticketing, marketing, and fundraising for the year.

Personal: A native of Blacksburg, Va., Duncan currently resides in Christiansburg, Va. with his wife Darcie and daughter Addison.
