LOCKLIN ON ROPER: "In his second year as captain, we look for Doug to improve on his record-setting performance from last year. As the only male diver in recent history to qualify for the NCAA Zone Championships, we look for Doug to continue his trend-setting performances again this season. Doug will help lead the Hokies into the ACC and help move this program into the next level." 2003-04: Finished fifth in the three-meter event at the BIG EAST Championships ... Also competed on platform at same meet and at zones ... Placed first in the three-meter against Villanova, West Virginia and East Carolina ... Finished second in the three-meter at the Nike Cup and fifth in the one-meter at the same meet.
2002-03: Was seventh in the three-meter diving event at the conference meet with a score of 396.85 ... Finished seventh at the Nike Cup with a score of 407.65.
2001-02: Came in 14th place in three-meter diving at the BIG EAST conference meet.
HIGH SCHOOL: Lettered four times at W.T. Woodson High.
PERSONAL: Douglas Charles Roper was born July 22, 1983 in Fountain Valley, California ... Son of Jane and Chuck Roper ... Majoring in residential property management.
