Head coach John Sung announced the addition of former Hokie attacker Meg Bartley to the lacrosse program’s staff in January 2020 as director of operations. Bartley comes to the Hokies from George Washington where she had been an assistant coach for the last two seasons.
"Bringing in Meg, it was important for me to reach out to someone who had a Virginia Tech background," Sung said. "Someone who has gone through what these kids have gone through - she’s walked across the Drillfield and sat in the same classrooms as our girls have. That sense of familiarity with the campus and Blacksburg will really help the girls."
Prior to her time in Washington, DC, Bartley was an assistant coach at Franklin & Marshall, where her primary responsibility was working with the midfield and draw team to teach and develop offensive strategies. Under her leadership in 2017, the Diplomats finished the season as the Centennial Conference Champions and made it to the Sweet Sixteen in the DIII NCAA tournament. In addition to her responsibilities on the field, Bartley placed a strong focus on student-athlete development and created a leadership curriculum for her players.
Before Franklin & Marshall, Bartley spent the 2016 season as a volunteer assistant coach at Virginia Tech, where she helped plan and facilitate practices.
As a four-year starter at Virginia Tech from 2012-2015, totaled 113 goals and 21 assists for 134 points throughout her career. Her goal tally remains the 10th most in program history and she stands alone in first with 285 draw controls ranks 14th in NCAA history for career draws per game (4.25).
“I want to thank Missy Jaworski for her work during her time here, this operations position was a new one and she did a lot of great things for the program and has laid the groundwork for Meg to come in and be successful,” Sung said.
A native of Lewes, Delaware, Bartley brings experience as a coach and camp director to GW as well, directing the PJ Kesmodel's Lacrosse Camp in addition to coaching experience with the Xtreme Club lacrosse team.
Bartley graduated from Virginia Tech in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in marketing management.
"I’m excited for the changes that are coming for 2020 with our program both on and off the field and I look forward to Letting Meg put her personal touch on this role here," Sung said.
