BLACKSBURG – Whether it’s at the fifth set or the 18th hole, Virginia Tech student-athletes are excelling in myriad ways this fall. The dedication, hard work, and love for sport has been on full display, bringing droves of Tech faithful to Southwest Virginia to experience the upper echelon of collegiate competition.

Virginia Tech women’s teams have continued to succeed at an extremely impressive clip, often securing victories spurned by remarkable student-athlete performance both individually and collectively. In this catch-all edition of HERstory Highlights – Virginia Tech Athletics’ multi-platform brand campaign to elevate the incredible achievements of female student-athletes – we look at the performances that Hokie fans should be aware of as seasons continue.

Women’s golf continues to achieve at a high level
What the Virginia Tech women’s golf team is doing on the golf course, through both individual performances and team finishes has been nothing short of historic.

The streak of achievement that the Hokies are currently riding has largely been trailblazed by Valentine Delon, a 2025-26 WGCA All-American Scholar and senior from Paris, France. Prior to the start of the 2026 campaign, Delon showcased her skills on the world stage by winning The 123rd Women’s Amateur Championship in Muirfield, Scotland. Delon became the first French player to hoist the trophy in over a decade. With the win, the senior earned four additional invites to major championships, including the US Women’s Open presented by Ally in 2027.

Momentum has only grown for Delon and the Hokies in 2026. In the first tournament of the season at the Nittany Lion Invitational, Delon would secure a victory behind a dominant 13-under 203 while teammates Xin Yao Wang and Raquel Walker would tie for fourth behind a 4-under 212. Their success would lead to a team title for the Hokies, marking the group’s third team title in the calendar year and the seventh all-time.

Three consecutive top-8 finishes as a team have followed since the Hokies’ season-opening win: A 4th-place finish at the Schooner Fall Classic, a 7th-place finish at The Ally, and a 2nd-place finish at the Ruth Chris Tar Heel Invitational, where Delon claimed another outright victory behind a 10-under 203 and a stunning 17 birdies.

While the season takes a hiatus after the team posted a runner-up performance at the Keswick Cup this October, action will pick back up in January 2027. Visit the Virginia Tech women’s golf schedule for more information.

Wenzel recognized for career milestones before season-opener against NC Central
Prior to tipoff in the opening matchup of the 2026-27 Virginia Tech women’s basketball season, graduate student and WBCA DI Coaches’ All-America Honorable Mention athlete Carleigh Wenzel was honored for reaching 1,000 career points with the Hokies. Wenzel surpassed the milestone against Georgia Tech on Feb. 22, 2026, behind a 15-point effort against the Yellow Jackets.

In the season-opening contest, Wenzel picked up where she left off, scoring a team-high 17 points. Tech would go on to thump NC Central in the first game of the year, claiming victory, 85-39.

Dynamic duo of Eliana Salama and Anna Weir lift Hokies to road upset at No. 10 Florida State
In what was the team’s final regular season game of the 2026 campaign, Virginia Tech women’s soccer claimed an upset 2-1 victory over No. 10 Florida State on Nov. 5. The Hokies’ victory is the program’s first-ever win in Tallahassee.

Anna Weir and Eliana Salama continued their elite play to give the Hokies the victory. Weir’s 13th-minute half-volley into the back of the net came from a give-and-go pass from Salama, giving the Hokies a 1-0 lead that they would hold into halftime. Salama added to the stat sheet with a go-ahead goal of her own in the 81st minute, slicing past the Seminole defender and placing an outside-foot shot off the right post and in for the lead.

With the win, Virginia Tech finishes the regular season at 8-5-5 (4-4-2 ACC). Thursday’s victory marks consecutive victories against the Seminoles dating back to 2024 – in both contests, Florida State has been the defending champion.

Volleyball’s Camilla Brandalise notches her 1,000 career assists against Virginia on Oct. 16
