TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Virginia Tech beat No. 10 Florida State 2-1 on the road on Thursday night for the program’s first-ever win in Tallahassee.

Anna Weir and Eliana Salama both got on the scoresheet to secure the three points.

How It Happened
The Hokies opened the scoring early as Anna Weir broke through in the 13th minute. The goal started on the transition with Hannah Pachan picking up a misplayed pass from the Seminoles and sending it forward to Weir. Weir drove forward before starting a give-and-go with Eliana Salama outside of the 18-yard box. Salama’s one-time pass set up Weir for a half-volley that looped in over the goalkeeper.

The Seminoles outshot the Hokies 11-4 in the first half, but Julianna Trujillo stood strong in net to hold a 1-0 lead going into the break.

Florida State opened the second half with a quick goal in the 47th minute with a low-driving cross into the box that the Seminoles finished past Trujillo.

Three minutes later, it looked like Florida State might grab a second, but Trujillo made a diving save at the near post and Bella Ganiere followed it up with a clearance out of the area.

The Hokies continued to press forward throughout the half, with one of the best chances coming from Salama and Weir combining in the 74th minute on a transition play. Gabby Ciocca collected the ball and played it forward to Salama, who flicked the ball to a striding Weir in-behind the defense. Weir drove into the six-yard box before her shot was blocked by a returning Seminoles defender.

The game-winning goal came just seven minutes later in the 81st minute. Anna Garrow forced a takeaway before Lilli Lubic picked up and sent a through ball overhead for Salama to meet. With the pass under control, Salama was one-on-one with the Seminoles defense and created space on the dribble before placing a shot into the bottom right-hand corner.

Florida State brought a high press for the final nine minutes, but the Hokies’ defense stayed composed to hold onto the one-goal lead.
