IJAMSVILLE, Md. — Virginia Tech finished tournament play at the Testudo Cup on Tuesday, finishing second as a team and carding a 3-under 861 (291-287-283). The three-round event took place at P.B. Dye Golf Club (par 72, 7,099 yards). The Hokies’ final round was the best of all teams, posting a 5-under to end the tournament.
Ben Baker won the individual title, carding a 10-under 206 (70-68-68) for his first collegiate victory. Baker recorded 14 birdies on his way to the title, tied for second across all tournament players. Robert Thompson tied for fifth individually with a 3-under 213 (70-72-71).
This is the second runner-up finish for the Hokies, who tied for second at the J.T. Poston Invitational in September.
Maryland took home the team title by two strokes, carding a 5-under 859 (284-287-288). Emil Riegger led the way for the Terrapins with a 5-under 211 (72-69-70), tying for third individually.
The Hokies will look to stay hot at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate in Jonesborough, Tenn. The three-day tournament will be hosted by East Tennessee State at Blackthorn Club.
