BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech (6-5-5, 2-4-2 ACC) picked up a point in a 1-1 draw with Clemson (6-4-6, 2-3-4 ACC) on Sunday evening.
Gabby Ciocca netted her fourth of the season for the lone Hokies’ goal.
How It Happened
The Hokies opened the game with a chance in the second minute from Eliana Salama that she chipped over the goalkeeper, but it rattled off the crossbar.
Clemson had a chance in the 27th minute as a Tiger picked up a ball outside the 18-yard box and was in for a one-on-one with Julianna Trujillo, who made a strong charge out of the goal for the stop.
Gabby Ciocca opened the scoring in the 57th minute as she picked off a Clemson player in the midfield, dribbled forward and ripped a shot from outside the 18-yard box that landed in the bottom left corner.
The Tigers started to find momentum shortly after the goal, but Trujillo made a series of saves to keep the score 1-0, including a full extension save on a ball looping towards the top corner in the 62nd minute.
Trujillo continued to come up big for the Hokies until Clemson ultimately broke through in the 83rd minute off a header on a cross that was recycled from a corner kick.
