BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech (6-5-4, 2-4-1 ACC) fell 4-1 to No. 4 Wake Forest (12-2-1, 5-2-1 ACC) on Thursday night.

Anna Weir scored her eighth goal of the season and Eliana Salama recorded her eighth assist.

How It Happened
Wake Forest opened the scoring in the sixth minute when a misplaced clearance from the Hokies put the ball to the feet of the Demon Deacons directly in front of goal.

Despite being down a goal, the Hokies continued to press forward. Eliana Salama and Anna Weir combined for a give-and-go into the box in the 20th minute, with Weir placing her shot just high. In the 41st minute, Ellie Robertson hit a one-timer that rattled off the post.

Wake Forest scored its second goal on the counterattack in the 42nd minute after a Demon Deacon forward picked up the ball from a corner kick clearance and charged down the field before launching it into the top left corner.

Weir cut the lead in half in the 51st minute with her eighth goal of the season. The Hokies built up from the back as Ellie Robertson received the ball from Peyton May and drove into Wake Forest’s half. She played the ball to Weir, who turned and dribbled before laying it off to Salama. Salama’s cross found Weir in the six-yard box, who placed it into the bottom left corner.

The Demon Deacons earned a penalty in the 75th minute off a handball and the 85th minute off a foul in the box to bring the score to 4-1.
