BLACKSBURG – The Hokies (6-3-3, 2-2-0 ACC) fell 2-1 to No. 25 Louisville (9-1-2, 3-0-2 ACC) on Saturday night.

Anna Weir scored Tech’s lone goal in the 83rd minute before Louisville took the lead in the final two minutes.

How It Happened
The two teams were even through the first 30 minutes of play, with Julianna Trujillo coming up with three saves to keep the Cardinals off the board.

The 34th minute marked the first VAR review of the night as the Hokies challenged for a penalty on Eliana Salama, but it was confirmed no foul. The second review came only seven minutes later as the Cardinals challenged a potential handball on Madi Boutot, which was confirmed as not a handball.

Louisville found the breakthrough in the 67th minute off a header that beat Trujillo at the near post after an individual effort on the wing to get the cross into the box.

The Hokies found the equalizer in the 82nd minute through Anna Weir’s sixth goal of the year. Tech won the ball off a Louisville goal kick and sent it immediately forward to Salama, who rushed to meet it before the Cardinals defender. The ball deflected to Weir, who was able to settle it and finish beyond the goalkeeper. The goal was checked for offside but deemed onside after review.

The Cardinals found the game-winner in the final two minutes on a play similar to their opening goal, with an individual effort down the wing and a cross into the box where the Louisville striker was left unmarked.
