Hokie ClubSTATE COLLEGE, Pa. - In record-setting fashion, the Virginia Tech women’s golf team captured the team title at the season-opening Nittany Lion Invitational, which concluded Tuesday at the Penn State Blue Course (par 72, 6,363 yards).
Behind three Hokies inside the top 10, Tech fired a tournament-record 20-under 844 (286-278-280) to post a five-shot victory over runner-up Maryland. The Hokies’ 844 broke the tournament record by seven shots (Penn State, 2021). The victory marks Tech’s third team title this calendar year and its seventh in program history.
Valentine Delon led the charge with a tournament-record 13-under 203 (69-66-68), four strokes clear of Yale’s Hanny Wang and Maryland’s Nicha Kanpai. The senior’s 13-under scorecard is a program record for relation to par and set the individual tournament record by two shots (Sarah Willis of Penn State, 2018). Delon's win gives her two collegiate titles, backing up her Advance Golf Partners Collegiate victory in 2025.
Joining Delon in the top 10 were teammates Xin Yao Wang and Raquel Walker, who both tied for ninth at 4-under 212. Emily Mathews and Savannah Dupre tied for 38th at 4-over 220.
The Hokies are back in action Sept. 19-21 at the Schooner Fall Classic. The 54-hole event will be played at the Belmar Golf Club in Norman, Okla..
