RALEIGH, N.C. – The Hokies back line held strong in the later part of the second half to finish with a 1-1 draw against NC State (1-1-3, 0-0-1 ACC) in the ACC opener Saturday evening.

Virginia Tech (2-1-1, 0-0-1 ACC) opened the scoring in the 30th minute when David Skovborg-Andersen found the back of the net for his first goal of the season. Alvaro Ruiz-Mateos provided the assist on the header, marking his third in two matches.

Tech carried their 1-0 advantage into halftime after outshooting NC State, 6-5, during the opening 45 minutes.

NC State (1-1-3, 0-0-1 ACC) pulled even in the 57th minute when Frank DeFrancesco converted a pass from Ervin Cruz.

Virginia Tech continued to create opportunities throughout the second half, matching NC State with six shots after the break. The Hokies finished the night with a 12-10 edge in total shots and held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.
