Hokie ClubNORMAN, Okla. – Behind a trio of Virginia Tech women's golfers in the top 10, the Hokies fired a 10-under 830 (277-278-275) to place fourth at the Schooner Fall Classic, which concluded Monday at Belmar Golf Club (par 70, 6,182 yards).
Leading the charge was sophomore Xin Yao Wang, who tallied a 7-under 203 (67-66-70). She was tied for first heading into the final round. Wang racked up 14 birdies, which tied for third in the field.
Also in the top 10 were Valentine Delon, who tied for sixth at 6-under 204 (68-71-65), and Emily Mathews, who tied for 10th at 5-under 205 (70-69-66).
Iowa State put together an impressive 30-under 810 (274-267-269) to claim a 17-shot victory in the team race. The Cyclones' Alexandra Vidal Rivera won the individual title behind a 10-under 200 (68-66-66).
Tech is next on the course Oct. 5-7 at The Ally hosted by Mississippi State. The three-day event will be contested at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Miss.
