Hokie ClubSYRACUSE, N.Y. – Hannah Pachan’s game-winning goal in the 85th minute propelled Virginia Tech (6-1-3, 2-0-0 ACC) to a 1-0 win over Syracuse (3-5-2, 0-3-0) on Sunday afternoon at SU Soccer Stadium.
How it Happened
The game was deadlocked through the first 45 minutes despite both teams generating changes. The Hokies’ best opportunity of the half came in the 39th minute when Anna Weir received the ball in the box and rifled it slightly off target of the near post.
Tech threatened once again in the 79th minute as Eliana Salama took a deflected pass off a Syracuse defender and launched a quality shot from outside the box, but the ball went just high.
The difference maker came in the 85th minute for the Hokies. Salama sent a great pass to Riley Karpinski, who dribbled up the field towards the side of the goal and passed to a wide-open Hannah Pachan. Pachan one-touched the pass straight into the back of the net from inside the six-yard-box for the 1-0 lead.
