Men and women sweep the podiums in the 6K and 8K

BLACKSBURG — Virginia Tech cross country dominated the Hokie Invitational on Friday, September 18, sweeping the podium for the women's 6K and men's 8K and topping the team scores at the Buford Meredith Cross Country Course. 

Women’s 6K
Elizabeth Coe earned first for the Hokies, finishing in a personal best of 21:06.8. Lydia Mikhin and Kenza Elakari rounded out the podium, crossing the line with personal bests of 21:08.4 and 21:14.5, respectively. Also scoring for Tech, Jeorgi Gavalas took fifth in a new personal best of 21:28.4, and Sharon Chepchirchir placed eighth with a time of 21:51.9.

Men’s 8K
In a final burst to the finish, Dylan DeCambre and Roan Kelly crossed the line separated by only three tenths of a second. DeCambre's effort earned him first place and a new personal best of 24:23.5, and Kelly a 24:23.8. The freshman Will Fadden made his mark with a third-place finish in 24:40.3. Nayan Kasperowski earned seventh with a time of 25:05.4, and Carter Johnson took ninth in 25:14.2 to also score for the Hokies.

The Hokies will travel down to App State on Oct. 2 for the Firetower Project at 5:00 p.m. ET.
