Hokie ClubCOLUMBIA, S.C. — Virginia Tech fell to South Carolina, 0-3 (25-10, 25-18, 25-18), Friday night at the Carolina Volleyball Center.
The first set opened with South Carolina taking an early 4-0 lead before Virginia Tech responded with kills from Isabella Mishler, Destiny Walker and Frances Torres. The Gamecocks continued to build their advantage, pushing ahead 19-7 before closing out the opening frame, 25-10.
Virginia Tech battled back in the second set, trading points with South Carolina early. The Hokies stayed within striking distance at 13-12 following a kill from Paloma Zubiri, but the Gamecocks used a late run to extend their advantage. Mishler provided a spark with five kills in the frame, but South Carolina closed out the set, 25-18.
The third set opened with South Carolina taking a 3-0 lead before the Hokies responded with kills from Walker and Zubiri to cut the deficit to 4-3. The Gamecocks extended their advantage to 8-2, but Tech continued to battle behind kills from Adeline Hundl, Layla Moore, Torres and Mishler. South Carolina maintained its lead and closed out the set, 25-18, to secure the 3-0 sweep.
