Hokie ClubWASHINGTON, D.C. – The Hokies took down No. 22 Georgetown, 2-1, on the road on Sunday afternoon.
Tech was powered by goals from Gabby Ciocca and Eliana Salama, who both netted their second of the season.
How It Happened
The first half started with back-and-forth action before the Hokies won a corner in the 20th minute. Johannah Bradley delivered the ball into the box, where it eventually popped out at the back post for Gabby Ciocca to power a shot in at the near post. The goal was reviewed for a potential foul in the box, but the call was confirmed as a Hokies goal.
The shots were even at four for both teams at halftime as the Hokies took the 1-0 lead into the next frame.
Tech started the second half on the front foot. It looked like a 2-0 lead for Tech in the 53rd minute as Anna Weir carried the ball down the field and squared it to Eliana Salama for an easy finish, but it was ultimately called offside.
The Hokies’ second goal officially came two minutes later on a similar play between Weir and Salama. Weir drove down the left side and sent a shot at the goalkeeper that was saved, but the rebound fell to Salama who put away her second of the year.
The Hokies kept up their attacking power, outshooting the Hoyas 8-4 in the second half but were plagued by offside calls. Georgetown got a goal back in the 78th minute off a corner kick as Julianna Trujillo had the ball knocked out of her hands by her own teammate while she was falling forward, keeping the play alive and allowing the Hoyas to find the back of the net.
Tech’s defense held strong in the final five minutes as Georgetown generated a flurry of chances off corner kicks to hold the 2-1 lead.
