BLACKSBURG – The Hokies came back twice to secure a 2-2 draw with the Liberty Flames on Thursday night.
Lilli Lubic and Anna Weir each scored to help keep the Hokies undefeated this season.
How It Happened
Liberty opened the scoring off a corner kick in the eighth minute with a header. After some back-and-forth, the Hokies found the tying goal on a Lilli Lubic strike in the 33rd minute. The buildup started in Tech’s defensive half as Peyton May played the ball out wide to Ellie Robertson. Robertson brought the ball inside, sending a pass to Eliana Salama, who beat a defender and slipped the ball through to Lubic. Lubic held off the defender before sending it past the goalkeeper to level the game at 1-1.

With three minutes left in the first half, the Flames found their second goal, building up from the back before a strong individual effort and a shot to the upper 90 gave Liberty a 2-1 lead into halftime.
Twelve minutes into the second half, Hannah Pachan drew a free kick after a Liberty player caught her from behind. Salama lined up for the free kick, taking it directly to the goal where it rebounded off the goalkeeper and fell to Weir, who finished into the side netting.

Liberty nearly found the go-ahead goal with four minutes remaining after a shot from outside the box forced Julianna Trujillo to make a fingertip save off the crossbar. The Flames attempted to follow it up with the ball bouncing toward the back of the net but were called for a foul on Trujillo, keeping the score at 2-2.
