BLACKSBURG – Mike Young and the Virginia Tech men’s basketball program released the Hokies’ 2026-27 non-conference slate Wednesday morning headlined by at least five Power Four matchups. Those include neutral site dates with Iowa and UCF, a trip to Morgantown to take on West Virginia and a home contest in the previously announced SEC/ACC Challenge against Ole Miss. The Hokies will also compete in the 2026 Shriner’s Children’s Charleston Classic.

The 14-game non-conference schedule features nine home contests on Carilion Clinic Court at Cassell Coliseum in addition to two neutral site matchups and a trip to Charleston, South Carolina for the Charleston Classic where the Hokies will face two of the following programs: Dayton, Minnesota, Northwestern, Oklahoma State and Utah.
Virginia Tech will begin its 119th season of men’s basketball Tuesday, November 3, as the Hokies play host to the Coppin State Eagles. Two nights later, the Hokies will play Mercer in the first meeting between the two since 1973.
November 10, Tech will take on Iowa, a team that defeated defending national champion Florida in the 2026 NCAA tournament on their way to an Elite Eight appearance in Sioux Falls, Iowa at Tyson Events Center.
The following week, Tech will be back home where they will meet Mount St. Mary’s (Nov. 13) and Richmond (Nov. 16).
Tech's multi-team event will be the Charleston Classic where they will play games on Friday, Nov. 20 and Sunday, Nov. 22.
On Nov. 27, Black Friday, the Hokies will close out the opening month of the season by playing host to Old Dominion in what will be the first meeting in the series since 2022.
Virginia Tech will kick off the month of December by taking on Ole Miss in the SEC/ACC Challenge at home on Carilion Clinic Court (Dec. 1), before a trip to Morgantown, West Virginia on Dec. 5 to meet the Mountaineers. The Hokies and Mountaineers have met 79 times in their history but have not met on the court since 2015.
December will also feature matchups with Maryland Eastern Shore (Dec. 10), Radford (Dec. 13) and VMI (Dec. 21) at Cassell Coliseum.
Sandwiched between the Radford and VMI games is a trip to Fort Lauderdale, Florida for a neutral site matchup with UCF on Dec. 19. The Knights participated in the 2026 NCAA tournament, falling to UCLA in the first round in March.
The 18-game Atlantic Coast Conference schedule, along with television networks and game times, will be announced later.
