PHILADELPHIA – Knocking on the door of the professional ranks, members of the Virginia Tech baseball team are anticipating hearing their names called this weekend during the 2026 MLB Draft presented by Nippon Express, as scheduled to run from Saturday, July 11, to Sunday, July 12, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center as a kickoff to MLB All-Star Week festivities (hosted by the Philadelphia Phillies).
Under a revised format, the 2026 draft will commence on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET with the event’s opening four rounds (featuring the first 135 picks).
Saturday’s draft coverage will begin airing on NBC/Peacock at 1 p.m. ET with the network’s preview show followed by the first 10 selections. At 2:30 p.m. ET, television coverage will move to MLB Network (until 4:30 p.m. ET) while digital coverage is presented concurrently via MLB.com, MLB.TV and MLB+.
On Sunday, digital coverage will resume at 11:30 a.m. ET on MLB.com, MLB.TV and MLB+, running through the conclusion of the 20th round.
Virginia Tech has celebrated 18 consecutive years of producing multiple MLB Draft selections, including a string of five straight years with four or more picks (23 picks since 2021). Since taking the helm of the Hokies in 2018, head coach John Szefc has mentored 30 MLB Draft prospects in Blacksburg – of which 14 have been chosen during the opening 10 rounds.
Junior right-handed pitcher Brett Renfrow is projected to lead Virginia Tech’s 2026 MLB Draft class. The three-time All-ACC honoree and two-time USA Baseball Collegiate National Team hurler is ranked as the No. 67 draft prospect by Baseball America, No. 103 by Perfect Game and No. 123 by MLB.com.
Additional Virginia Tech draft hopefuls include senior catcher Henry Cooke, senior right-handed pitcher Luke Craytor, senior shortstop Clay Grady, senior left-handed pitcher Brody Roe, senior right-handed pitcher Griffin Stieg, senior left-handed pitcher Brendan Yagesh, junior left-handed pitcher Madden Clement, junior right-handed pitcher Preston Crowl, junior shortstop Pete Daniel and junior right-handed pitcher Aiden Robertson.
