Virginia Tech women’s soccer has signed Sofia Skuthälla to the 2026 recruiting class. Skuthälla, a defender from Norrköping, Sweden, played club soccer with IFK Norrköping F19 for four seasons, where she has finished as the top scorer in the league on multiple occasions. In addition to soccer, Skuthälla competed in track and field with Tjalve IF for eight years.

“We are so happy to add Sofia to our program,” head coach Chugger Adair said. “We have enjoyed getting to know her as a person and she will positively add to our culture. As a soccer player, she has versatility, technical ability, wonderful stamina and can play many different positions on the field. She can play on the left side and the right side midfield or back line. Can’t wait to have her join our program!”

Why did you choose Virginia Tech? I chose Virginia Tech because it felt like the perfect combination of high-level soccer, strong academics, and a welcoming team environment. From the first conversations with the coaches, I felt that they genuinely cared about me both as a player and as a person. Virginia Tech offers the opportunity to compete at a very high level in the ACC while also earning a great education. I knew it was the right place for me to continue developing on and off the field.

What was your favorite thing about your visit? Although I have not visited campus yet, everything I have seen and heard from the coaches and current players has been incredibly positive. The campus looks beautiful, and everyone talks about the amazing atmosphere and strong sense of community. It seems like a place where people truly support one another, and that made me even more excited about becoming a Hokie.

What excites you the most about being part of Virginia Tech women’s soccer? I am most excited about competing alongside talented teammates and challenging myself every day. Being part of a program that consistently competes at a high level in one of the best conferences in the country is an amazing opportunity. I am excited to learn from the coaching staff, improve as a player and help the team achieve its goals. I am also really excited about the experience of moving from Sweden to the United States and starting a completely new chapter in my life. It will be a big challenge, but I love stepping outside of my comfort zone, meeting new people and growing both as a person and as an athlete.

What are your soccer strengths? My strengths on the soccer field are my goal-scoring ability and my attacking mindset. I have a strong eye for goal and have been the top scorer in my league multiple times. I also have good game understanding, which helps me find the right spaces and make smart decisions in the final third. On top of that, I am technically strong and confident using both feet, which allows me to be unpredictable and effective in attacking situations.

Who is your favorite pro player and why? My favorite player is Alexia Putellas because of her incredible technical ability, vision, and intelligence on the field. She is a player who can control the game, create chances and score goals at the highest level. I admire her leadership and consistency, and she is someone I try to learn from in terms of how she reads the game and impacts matches.

What do you plan on majoring in? I plan on majoring in Business.

What is one thing you want Virginia Tech fans to know about you? I have played almost every position on the field except goalkeeper, but I feel most comfortable and enjoy playing in attacking roles. I love being on the front foot, creating chances and contributing with goals and assists. I am also very competitive and hate losing. I am determined, stubborn in a good way and will always push myself and those around me to be better. Most importantly, I will always give everything I have for the team and do whatever it takes to help us succeed, on and off the pitch.
